Miriam Escofet’s works have evolved over the years from still life, fantasy, architecture and portraiture. In this episode, she explains the trauma behind her family’s move from Spain to England when she was 12, the difficulties she experienced at art school, her early obsession with architecture and celestial charts, her love of process and making, how she builds atmosphere into her works, how winning the BP Portrait Award led to a commission to paint Queen Elizabeth II.

Oh good, I’m looking forward to listening to this one – I admire the craftsmanship evident in Miriam Escofet’s work; her meticulous attention to detail produces very masterful (mistresstful?) works.
Hope all is well with you Bob. I think of you often. Talking to you about work (and a bit about life) was a very happy diversion from the usual studio routine.
Last night I listened again to an earlier Private Passions episode with Norman Ackroyd, who died last week. Norman was an artist I knew from way back in the 1970’s when I was a student. Then more recently I visited him in his Bermondsey studio and was lucky enough to buy a few of his beautiful and evocative etchings. It’s a good listen (wonderful music choices) if you have time. Available for another 14 days I think.
